PublicHealth.org has published a summary report of the current state of cancer in America. Their website has many resources for information about and assistance with cancer. 


 

Cancer Rates:


2008: 12.7 million new cases


2012: 14.1 million


2025: 19.3 million expected



43% of cancers occur more often in developed nations than in developing. Why? Modern lifestyle choices.


5 Changes to Make to Reduce Cancer Risk:


  • Stop smoking
  • 1 in 5 cancer deaths can be attributed to cigarette smoking?


  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Try to get at least 2.5 hours of exercise per week


  • Use sunscreen and skip the tanning bed
  • 86% of melanomas can be attributed to UV rays


  • Drink less alcohol
  • Alcohol can attribute to about 4% of cancer deaths


  • Don't eat red meat
  • People who eat 4oz or more of red meat per day have a 40% higher risk of cancer than those who eat less than 1oz per day
